Year-in-Review for 2016-2017
My second year at the University of Cincinnati was a rough one. I spread myself a bit too thin in terms of commitments to other organizations, and my health and grades definitely suffered because of it. The fact that organic chemistry was a part of my schedule certainly did not help with my moral or stress levels. However, I have made it through to the other side and am determined to improve for the upcoming semesters.
The honor's experience that I completed this year was a class that was already required of me: Intermediate Composition. It was very conveniently offered as an honor's class, and I am so grateful for that. Sometimes I am wary about English classes, but was pleasantly surprised by this particular one. I worked with almost all the other students when reviewing papers and concocting outlines, allowing me to really improve my writing and revising skills. Also, the teacher was fantastic. He was excited about the material, engaging, extremely knowledgeable, and quirky enough to hold my attention on Mondays at 8 in the morning. I absolutely loved this class, and aside from band it became the highlight of my day. I learned about the way I best write papers, and my strengths and weaknesses in research. I will take what I learned in this class far into the future; it will be especially facilitating when writing scientific papers for some of my other classes.
I met with my honor's adviser again this year to talk about studying abroad and places to go volunteer. She helped me so much in such a short time, she really is a life saver. Unfortunately I did not have the time to endeavor on a trip abroad, but plan to do so in the years to come.
Sophomore years have always been tough for me; the beginner's luck of schooling in a new place has worn off and the material starts to increase in difficulty. If this year were to receive a letter grade, it would be a B-. Although these past couple semesters were not the best, I am confident that next year will be better. I have effectively re-motivated myself to be the absolute best student I can be, and I plan to do just that. After all, that is the real reason we're all here.
