I plan to lead and make a difference in every field I become involved with. I always aim to do my best, and constantly improve. Some areas that I am especially passionate about are music, education, and the environment. I want to see the world become a cleaner place, and I want to see college and instruments become more affordable.
On campus, I plan to lead in the band by acquiring officer positions or just helping out whenever I can. I could also come up with fundraisers to raise money for new instruments that could be loaned to players who didn't already own one. Another option would be to start my own organization focused on the university's spending and how that impacts and influences student life. Making an effort to recycle (even outside my home), and picking up litter that I see on the street are two things to help the environment that I have already started implementing into my daily life. I hope to inspire others who see me to also make more environmentally conscious decisions.
Some things I could do to start changing these areas on a larger scale involve starting a movement to cut down pollution and dumping wastes in landfills. I could also go to protests and show support for the prevention of deforestation. Creating a petition and collecting signatures for the decrease in tuition costs across the nation would also be a stepping stone that could lead to change, and would be easy for me to accomplish (in theory).
Challenges that I could potentially face are lack of others' interest in the subjects I am passionate about. If not a significant amount of people are working towards a goal, the workload becomes too much and real change cannot be accomplished. Another problem could be my lack of influence and power in the world. I am just a college student studying to be a dentist. When someone who does not already have power tries to influence the world, not many people are convinced they need to join the cause. However, on a smaller level (campus size), my problems would be centered on awareness of the program. Interest would also play a role. The more people involved and excited about what is happening, the more sway that group has with the higher-ups (in this case, the department heads).
